Mount Airy’s slots revenues fell eight percent for the first full post holiday week of 2008 to $3 million on wages of $44 million. But that’s better than the state, which saw revenues fall by nine percent to $25 million on wages of $309 million.
Mount Airy retained its spot as fourth of the state’s six licensed slots parlors in terms of wagers.
And it continues to post the highest payouts to its guests. But its high payout rate resulted in lower gross terminal wagers, the amount left over after winning payouts are made. It ranks fifth in GTW in the state.
Officials at the casino, although pleased with its performance, cautioned against irrational exuberance.
“Mount Airy Casino Resort had two of its best days on Friday and Saturday, setting a record on Saturday for our highest single-day handle, or amount of money wagered. Yet this past week also made it clear that we are going to see day-to-day and week-to-week fluctuations that vary based on the local weather conditions and snow fall,” according to Pete Peterson, spokesperson for Mount Airy.
